Chemical or bio-fogging has been around for quite some time. The process of using specialized equipment to spray a chemical mist onto surfaces to sanitize and prevent the spread of any pathogens such as COVID-19, influenza, MRSA, HIV, and many others. This process was mainly used for overly sensitive spaces such as hospital rooms, cleanrooms, food processing facilities, and more.
With the introduction of COVID-19, many companies were looking for methods to keep their staff and customers safe in other industries such as restaurants, offices, showrooms, etc. This is when fogging crossed over to mainstream use.
Historically, various chemicals including formaldehyde, phenol-based agents, and compounds of ammonium have been used in fogging. Many were not thoroughly tested for various conditions and safety.
Over recent years many advancements have been made to biocidal technology, providing both a safe and effective solution for sanitation. Fogging is now completely safe and highly effective when done properly.
In addition, our company favors a water-based anti-microbial that is non-hazardous, odorless, and non-corrosive, harmless to the environment, and requires no rinsing. No special requirements apply either for protection against spillages or during handling or storage.
Fogging is a somewhat misleading term. The most common form of fogging does not create an actual fog. Chemical or wet fogging produces a fine mist.
An advanced battery or corded machine is loaded with the proper chemical for your facility. This machine works by rapidly heating a mixture of water and glycol, producing a vapor. The expanding vapor is forced out of a nozzle where the warm, moist vapor mixes with the cooler air to form "fog".
This method evenly produces a mist that the technician sprays over every surface effectively killing the pathogens. The particles in the mist or fog are so small that they remain suspended in the air long enough to kill airborne viruses and bacteria.
It also eliminates pathogens on surfaces such as walls, furniture, floors etc. With this process, we can get into areas where you simply could not reach before with traditional wiping/cleaning.
With the advancements in technology being developed, we now have better ways to demonstrate how effective fogging is with specialized tests, such as ATP (adenosine triphosphate) monitors.
This monitor allows us to swap the surface and analyze using a hand-held monitor, quickly and effectively telling us if any presence of pathogens such as COVID-19, influenza, MRSA, HIV, and many others are present. This method works by analyzing the ATP molecule which is found in and around all living cells.
The chemicals used in this process are safe for all surfaces. They will not harm your electronics, materials, etc. Screens/desks will be wiped to ensure no residue after treatment. Leaving your facility sanitized, clean, and ready for use. For certain situations, such as server rooms a dry fogging chemical may be offered depending on your situation.
Many companies offer fogging services today. The real question comes down to the quality of cleaning you are getting. For the "Fog" to be effective, areas with a high level of debris need to be thoroughly cleaned before applying the fogging chemical.
Our company ensures high touch areas will be thoroughly wiped down before fogging. This makes sure that any dirt and grime have been removed allowing the chemical solution to be most effective in removing COVID-19, influenza, MRSA, HIV, and many others.
Some high touch areas include:
Anywhere you require proper sanitation for safe operation of your facility. The most common places include:
